High Tatras — Slovak pride, a natural escape

The highest mountain range in the Carpathians packs 25 peaks above 2,500 m into a ridge just 26 km wide — which is why the Tatras are sometimes described as the smallest big mountains in the world. Electric railways connect the resort towns, cable cars climb to Lomnický štít, and glacial lakes such as Štrbské Pleso sit right beside the mountain resorts.

For operators, the Tatras offer a complete mountain destination within a compact area: mountain hotels, licensed guides, hiking and trekking programmes, cable-car excursions and year-round activities. Poprad provides easy access to the region, while the Spiš UNESCO sites are within easy reach for combining nature, culture and heritage in one programme.
