The tour

What this tour is

The Small Carpathians run north-east out of Bratislava, and their south-eastern slopes are one of the eight wine regions of Slovakia. The whole of this tour is inside an hour of the city, which is what makes a serious wine day possible without moving the clients out of their hotel.

It starts at Červený Kameň — the Red Stone Castle above the village of Častá, thirty-five kilometres out. The castle looks like something from a story book and sits on cellars that are among the largest in Central Europe. From there the day goes to Modra, a historic wine and pottery town where the majolica is still painted by hand, and on to Pezinok, the centre of Slovak wine production, for a walk through the old town.

The tasting is at the end, in Svätý Jur on the way back: three samples of local fine wine with a snack, from the winemaker, in a small cellar. Hotel pick-up and drop-off, a licensed guide and an air-conditioned vehicle are included; the castle entrance is quoted separately. The same route runs for individual travellers under our retail brand as the private Small Carpathian wine discovery.
