Trnava — the Little Rome of Slovakia
Just 50 km from Bratislava, Trnava is Slovakia’s oldest royal free town and one of the country’s most historic cities. Known as the “Little Rome of Slovakia”, its skyline of church towers rises within a remarkably well-preserved medieval city wall.
For operators, Trnava is an easy half-day addition to a Bratislava programme or the Small Carpathian Wine Route. Its compact historic centre, wine cellars and courtyard restaurants provide excellent options for guided visits, wine experiences and atmospheric group dinners.
Highlights
What Trnava gives a programme
The city of churches
Trnava is known as the “City of Churches”, with more than a dozen historic churches within its compact medieval centre. Highlights include St. John the Baptist Cathedral, home to one of Europe's largest historic wooden altars, and the Gothic-style St. Nicholas Basilica.
Wine & mead region
Trnava marks the eastern end of the Small Carpathian Wine Route and is surrounded by a long tradition of wine production. The region is also known for its beekeeping and mead-making traditions, with honey and mead tastings offering a distinctive local experience for groups. Wine tastings, cellar visits and mead experiences can be easily incorporated into cultural programmes or arranged as a memorable evening activity for incentive and corporate groups.
Easy day-trip pairing
Combine Trnava with Bratislava or Nitra to create a full-day western Slovakia programme — with short transfers and no need to change hotels or repack the coach.
