The excursion

What this day is

The Grand City Tour is the standard three-hour introduction to Bratislava and the one to choose when a group wants the complete picture of Bratislava rather than the old town alone. It combines a panoramic drive to the parts of the city a walking tour cannot reach with a walk through the historic centre.

The drive takes in the Presidential Palace, the functionalist villas of the Palisády district, the castle, the Slavín memorial with its view over the rooftops, and the Blue Church. The group then walks the old town itself. Because both halves are covered, this is the version used inside most of the multi-day programmes.

The same route runs daily for individual travellers under our retail brand, Bratislava City Tours, as the Bratislava Grand City Tour.

How the day runs

The order can be changed, the day can be shortened, and it can be joined to another excursion — tell us what you need and we re-quote it.

1

Meeting and introduction

The guide and the coach meet the group in front of the Park Inn by Radisson Danube hotel, or at your own hotel in Bratislava.

2

Presidential Palace and the Palisády district

Past the Presidential Palace and up into Palisády, the hillside district of functionalist villas built in the early twentieth century.

3

Bratislava Castle

A short stop at the castle, seen from the exterior, on its terrace above the Danube.

4

The memorial to the Soviet soldiers who liberated Bratislava, and the best single view over the city from above.

5

The Blue Church

The Art Nouveau church of St Elizabeth, blue inside and out, one of the most photographed buildings in the country.

6

The old town on foot

The last part of the tour is on foot: the opera house, the Reduta, the Franciscan church, the Primate’s Palace and St Michael’s Gate.
