What this day is
Slovakia has more than 180 castles and more than 300 manor houses — more per square kilometre than almost anywhere in Europe. This excursion takes the two that a group will recognise: the fairy-tale one and the fortress one.
Bojnice is the castle every Slovak child grows up seeing. Trenčín is the opposite in character: a fortress on a rock at Trenčín, below which is carved the oldest written record in Slovakia, left by the army of the Roman emperor Marcus Aurelius.

Departure for Bojnice
The guide meets the group in your hotel lobby in Bratislava for the drive to the spa town of Bojnice.
Bojnice Castle
First recorded in 1013 in a list from Zobor Abbey, and given its present look in the rebuilding of 1888 to 1909 under Count Ján Pálffy, in the manner of the Loire châteaux. Entrance to the castle, then free time for lunch in the town.
Trenčín
One of the most ancient towns in the country, known for the castle above it and for the Roman inscription on the rock below, which records the presence of the army of Marcus Aurelius.
The old town on foot
A walking tour of the historic centre of Trenčín before the return to Bratislava.
