The excursion
What this day is
This is the Grand City Tour with the afternoon added: after Bratislava itself, the coach continues ten kilometres west to Devín, where the Morava flows into the Danube and Slovakia, Austria and the Czech Republic meet within sight of one another.
Devín is the older of Bratislava’s two castles. Its walls go back to Great Moravia in the ninth century, and for forty years after the war the rock stood directly on the Iron Curtain, with the border fence running below it. For a group, it is the single most effective place in the country to explain both the medieval story and the twentieth-century one.
The same combination runs for individual travellers under our retail brand, Bratislava City Tours, as the Bratislava city tour with Devín Castle.

How the day runs
The order can be changed, the day can be shortened, and it can be joined to another excursion — tell us what you need and we re-quote it.
Meeting and introduction
The guide and the coach meet the group in front of the Park Inn by Radisson Danube hotel, or at your own hotel in Bratislava.
The panoramic drive
Past the Presidential Palace and the functionalist villas of Palisády, up to Bratislava Castle and on to the Slavín memorial for the view over the rooftops, then the Blue Church.
The old town on foot
The opera house, the Reduta, the Franciscan church, the Primate’s Palace and St Michael’s Gate.
Devín Castle
The coach continues west along the Danube to Devín. A visit to the castle rock, the ruined ramparts and the terrace above the confluence of the two rivers.
Back to the hotel
Drop-off at your hotel or in the city centre.
