The excursion
What this day is
Southern Slovakia is the oldest-settled part of Slovakia and architecturally one of the richest. Trnava and Nitra are its two oldest towns — one the seat of an archbishop, the other of a bishop — and both are full of churches and monuments as a result.
Nitra is known as the mother of all Slovak cities. In Great Moravian times it was the political centre of the state, and the first church in Slovakia was built there. Topoľčianky, between the two, was the summer residence of Tomáš Garrigue Masaryk, the first Czechoslovak president, and is next door to the Slovak National Stud Farm.

Departure for Trnava
The guide meets the group in your hotel lobby in Bratislava, and the coach heads for Trnava.
Trnava
A walking tour of the historic centre of the town known as the Slovak Rome for its sacral buildings, with a possible entrance to St Nicholas’s Cathedral.
Topoľčianky
The castle that served as the summer residence of the first Czechoslovak president, and the Slovak National Stud Farm beside it.
Nitra
Free time for a late lunch, then the upper and lower town on foot. In the upper town, entrance to St Emmeram’s Cathedral on its hill above the city. Mead can be tasted in Nitra as well.
Return to Bratislava
The coach returns to your hotel in Bratislava in the evening.
